How to use a teleprompter without sounding like a robot

Maya Chen · 2026-08-15

Robot energy usually comes from karaoke eyes: text at the bottom of the screen, scroll too fast, mouth chasing words. Fix the setup before you blame talent.

Place gear first

Camera near eye level. Scrolling text as close to the lens as you can manage. Sit back so peripheral vision skims the script while the lens gets most of your gaze.

Speed and type

Lock a Scrolvo pace you can finish without gasping. Font big enough to read upright — not Morse-code huge. Leave blank lines at periods. Miss a word? Stop and restart the sentence.

Five-minute warm-up: two silent read-throughs, then record fifteen seconds. If eyes still drift, move text toward the lens and drop speed one notch.
